October 2007 Update

Autumn Colors We arrived home on the 2nd – to Indian Summer – which was wonderful because we missed summer while we were gone. We were south of the equator most of the time that we were in Kenya, so it was winter time. July and August are the coldest months there.

We’re back into our routines here – we’ve unpacked things, pulled weeds, trimmed back shrubs, and now we’re getting ready for winter – raking leaves, spilting wood and putting on storm windows.

Thank you renters – of both our home and our Roton Point unit - for making our trip to Kenya feasible.

Nambale Fund Raiser In mid-October, our Kenyan friend, Rev. Evalyn Wakhusama, arrived for a big fund raising event in Woodbury to help build her Nambale Residential Magnet School in Western Kenya – please see www.wiks.org. Squire Rushnell, author of “When God Winks”, was the guest speaker. John won a door prize (a bagel breakfast), so we get to go to back to beautiful Woodbury again soon.

John has finished the web site for St. John Bosco Center. It’s up and running now, so please take a look at www.boscokenya.org.

God's Children At NPC The Mission Board at Noroton Presbyterian Church is now covered with photos of 174 children and young people of Tumaini Children’s Home in Nyeri, Kenya. If you would like to pray for, and write to, a boy or girl, please send a message to Marilyn – parkerma@juno.com.

Thank you Don, for the laptops for two young woman, one at US International University and another at Daystar University. If you, or someone you know, would like to donate a gently-used laptop, please let John know – parkerj@asme.org. – as we know several other students who would like to have laptops as well.

NYC Kids and Marathoners At the end of the month, Marilyn took the train into NYC (as she did for years to go to work) and enjoyed a walk in Central Park, which was being readied for the Marathon. We hope that you all saw Martin Lel from Kenya as he crossed the finish line to win the men’s race.
