This was our time to get ready for winter – we raked leaves, put on the storm windows, cleaned the gutters and got firewood. And we enjoyed seeing friends – from several walks of life.
One Saturday we, and several others from Noroton Presbyterian Church (NPC), served lunch to
a hundred or so needy people at the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk. We try to do this every
first Saturday of the month. If you’d like to learn more about the shelter, please see
www.norwalkemergencyshelter.org
We spent a weekend in Denver at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Fall
Congress. It was wonderful seeing friends that we haven’t seen often in the past ten years,
since John served as President. John is now involved with Engineers for Global
Development and Engineering for Change, headed up by Noha El-Ghobashy. For more about this
new ASME project, please see

Marilyn and twenty eight other women enjoyed a Thanksgiving breakfast in the parlour of NPC -
and celebrated finishing “Breaking the Code – Understanding the Book of Revelation”. This book
was not an easy study, especially at 6:15 am every Tuesday for eight weeks. To learn more
about women's ministries at NPC please see
www.norotonchurch.com/womens_ministries0.aspx.
We enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with John’s daughter Betsy, and five other friends – three
of whom are from Kenya. One of our guests brought Mokimu (a festive Kenyan dish), which we had along with turkey,
dressing, gravy, sweet potatoes and green beans – and then, we followed all that with pumpkin, pecan and coconut
cream pies. We have so much to be thankful for, here in our bountiful country. When darkness covered the earth and all seemed lost, Your light came into the world. God, let Your light shine on those who still dwell in the shadow of death, and lead them safely back to You. We offer our lives as living candles, that everything we do may reflect Your truth, mercy and love. Set Your flame ever in our hearts and purge from our thoughts all stain of sin, that we might be guiding lights to our brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters, around the world, who eagerly await Your coming. Come, Lord Jesus! ~Maryknoll |
