Winston Churchill said “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

Asanta Sana – a very special thank you to everyone who is helping to change the lives of eight children in Meru, Kenya. They will get new school uniforms, food supplements and medical care. A big thank you too to the sponsors of eight Masai girls in Bissell, Kenya who are helping with their boarding school fees and new uniforms.

Sarah & John Dishing It Out One Saturday, we served lunch - burgers, fries, salad and carrot cake – to over a hundred hungry and homeless men and women at Norwalk Emegency Shelter. Sarah were there too – and she is really excited about leaving on New Year’s Eve for Nairobi. She and 13 other young women from USA, Canada, UK and Australia will climb MT. Kenya, MT. Meru and MT. Kilmanjaro in 3 weeks. You can send words of encouragement to her at sarahworldtraveler@yahoo.com. You can go to these websites to learn all about her planned adventure as well as about the children in Arusha, Tanzania that she’s helping: www.3peaks3weeks.org and www.schoolofstjude.co.tz.

Our Friend Lucy The Christmas Show at Rowayton Arts Centre is on until December 23. Two of Marilyn’s photos, “Turkana Homes” and “Our Friend Lucy” are on exhibit. Proceeds from the sale of these photos - and all those in the Photo Mart too - will go to help needy children and young people in Kenya.

St. John Church in Darien, CT is sponsoring 13 students at St. John Bosco Children’s Home in Kitali, Kenya. You too can help Bosco children to go to boarding schools by sending a check to St. John Church - Charitable Giving Committee, 1986 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820-5805.

Small Group Fellowship In our small group, we’re reading and discussing “The Way of Prayer”. One Sunday evening, we prayed by gazing at icons - our favorite is “The Trinity” by A. Rublev. Another time, we prayed with music - Marilyn’s contribution was Andre Bocelli’s beautiful “The Lord’s Prayer” with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, which for David Foster was “ the closest to Heaven” experience he has ever had. And the group sang John's favorite hymn - “All is Well With My Soul”.

The Parkers Give Thanks
We had great food and wonderful fellowship with John’s family on Thanksgiving Day. We all have so much to be grateful for. Betsy named five things she’s thankful for – and she does this every day. A great idea for all of us to try.

Our prayer now is -

During the Eucharistic celebration we say,
“It is fitting and right to give thanks.”
Thankfulness is the door to the Kingdom
of God.

The first and last words of our day
should be “thank you”.
All life is a gift from God,
which we in turn must give away.

The two most important words
of any prayer are: thank you.
Gratitude to God unleashes enough divine
Energy
to move mountains.

A gratefull heart is a joyful heart,
and a joyful heart is a creative heart,
finding new ways to give itself away.
