It is almost spring - the crocus are blooming and the daffodils will soon open.
Over forty people attended the opening reception for Marilyn’s “Africa’s Children – Why They Matter“ exhibit at
Brendan’s 101 in Rowayton. There are twenty two images of children - some happy and some sad – in several areas
of Kenya (Meru, Tharaka and Kitale) and at City of Hope in Tanzania. There are also photos of wildlife shot in
Meru National Park and the Elephant Orphanage in Kenya and on the Serengeti (The Endless Plain) in Tanzania. You can see all these photos,
and purchase them too, in Photo Mart.
The children of Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien are helping children in
Kenya go to school. They collected crayons, pencils, stickers, glue sticks and construction paper. They gave
their offerings for books to be purchased in Kenya – and two girls sold jewelry that they had made themselves
to raise money for Nambale Magnet School – see
www.nambalemagnet.org.
John attended the NPC men’s retreat in Ivoryton. Bay Forest, a former NBA basketball player who had spent
five years in Kenya at Rift Valley Academy, was the guest speaker. And the same weekend, Marilyn attended
the St. John Church women’s retreat at the Convent of St. Birgitta – the beautiful 19th Century Vikingsborg
Guest House in the Tokeneke enclave of Darien. For more about this unique and tranquil place,
see www.birgittines-us.com .
We, and several members of the NPC Global Mission Team, spent some time over lunch with Jairton de Melo –
and celebrated his birthday. He is affiliated with Children of Bethlehem in Brazil, a mission project of NPC.
Lord Jesus Christ, you have given your Church the mission to proclaim the Gospel to all the nations. May our efforts to fulfill this mission be guided by the Holy Spirit so that we might be a leaven of new life; salt of the earth and a light of the world – worthy missionaries and faithful to You. Make us valiant witnesses to the Faith of the Church, and inspire us to speak the truth with love. Help us to communicate to others the joy that we have received. Permit us to be united, but not closed; humble, but not fearful; simple, but not naïve; thoughtful, but not overbearing; contemporary, but not superficial; respectful of others, but boldly Your disciples. May we bear into the world the hope of God, which is Christ the Lord, who rose from the dead and lives and reigns with Father and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen www.CatholicismProject.org |
