“There’s plenty of work for love to do” from Tea Time for the Traditionally Built by Alexander McCall Smith, one of ten delightful books about a lady detective and her assistant in Botswana. These stories were an HBO series that was being shown before we left for Kenya.

Margaret and Her Family
We met Margaret at The Presbyterian University of East Africa in Kikuyu. She is there on a scholarship provided by Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT. We also met her mother and two sisters (Purity and Mary), her young brother Daniel and her nephew Joseph.

We spent a couple of evenings with Evalyn and Sam and their two eldest children, Wendy and Ernest, both of whom are attending USIU in Nairobi. Plans for a pump, water tower and tank for Nambale Magnet School were discussed – and we hope to see this new system in operation when we attend the dedication ceremony on August 8th. .

Mary and Her Students in Bissel

We travelled to Bissel to visit eleven Masai girls who started primary school later than normal. They are being tutored by teacher Mary, and moving ahead by skipping parts of grades.

Three Sisters
Lucy from Mombasa and Jane from Thika were guests, on our first weekend after settling into our home in Meru. We visited their sister Martha here in Meru, at Kenya Methodist University, where she has almost finished a Secondary Education Degree.

John is continuing his work, which he started a year ago, on the database at Ripples International. Marilyn is spending several afternoons a week at Tumaini Centre, with girls, ages 5 to 15. They are watching the Jesus for Children DVD, doing artwork, taking photos and making scrapbooks.

Thank You Ripples

It was hot, dry and very dusty in and around Isiolo, where we went with the staff of Ripples International to distribute USAID maize - and school uniforms and salt supplied by another donor - to caregivers of Samburu school children. Bessie, a clinical officer in training and our neighbor, checked the children for malnutrition and abuse – and they were all given pills to rid them of microscopic worms.

Please pray with us -

Eternal Father, as we pass through this life,
help us to remember to love, forgive, and forget.
We know that you are with us at all times,
just waiting for us to come to you.
May we find in you and others peace and forgiveness.
Most Holy Spirit, come down upon us
and guide us to do your holy will.
Eternal Father, may your blessing come down upon us
and remain forever.
Amen.
