Christmas celebrations extended into January for the Parker family when eleven
members finally got together at Walt and Jeanne's new home in Berlin, Connecticut.
(Click on photo for larger image). We are so sad about what has been happening in Kenya since the elections on December 27th. We have spent hours on the Internet, and getting and sending e-mails and text messages, trying to find out if all our friends there are safe. So far, they are. Some however, have had to leave their homes behind in order to save their lives. One friend had to move 95 children from a home in the Rift Valley to a safe place in Central Province. Another friend, while in bank, saw a man being beaten to death on the street. Tumaini Children’s Home is now full with many new children who arrived there because their families had to flee from Western Kenya or the Rift Valley. To help feed and clothe these children, see www.theoutreachfoundation.org Please pray that there will soon be peace again in Kenya. Pray that the people will stop hating - and start loving their neighbors – even their enemies.
Noroton Presbyterian Church’s Women Retreat was very special. Associate Pastor Connie Jordan-Hass
taught from Joshua - “Pardon for the Past, Power for the Present and Promise for the Future”. One
hundred and thirty women attended – and they made “a joyful noise”, especially with their singing
of “Because You Are”, the weekend’s theme song. See
www.norotonchurch.org
Our friend Rev. Evalyn Wakhusama came from Kenya for the retreat - and another friend, Alice Yahef-Deigh
(originally from Cameroon) came from the Philadelphia area, with her young daughter, Donalice.Twenty-five friends gathered one evening at the Morgans’ beautiful home to share a fabulous potluck supper and to hear from Evalyn about the progress that has been made on Nambale Magnet School. To help build this school in Western Kenya, see www.wiks.org.
Later that same evening, Evalyn learned from her husband Sam that it was no longer safe to be in their home,
and that when Evalyn returned they would have to find another place to live.Thank you Fr. McGrath and the Charitable Giving Committee of St. John Church for sponsoring four students at St. John Bosco Rehabilitation Centre in Kitale, Kenya. If you would like to help a child to go to school, see www.boscokenya.org. |
