It’s been a short month filled with lots of good happenings – including roses and chocolates to
celebrate St. Valentine’s Day.We enjoyed seeing old University of Alberta friends, and meeting some new ones, at the annual U of A Alumni Pasta Dinner in NYC – followed by skating in the brisk outdoors of Central Park.
Marilyn’s nephew, Brett, is now working in Qatar – after spending several weeks there trying to
get the proper visa so that he’d be allowed on the work site. One beautiful Sunday, thirty Rowayton friends and neighbors gathered in our home for our annual “chase away the blaas” brunch. During the meeting and greeting time, several folks discovered friends from years ago, that they hadn’t seen in years, even though they all live here in the same town.
Our gourmand group celebrated Washington’s Birthday with a colonial dinner, starting with spiced
hot cider and finishing with what else but cherry pie, of course. We attended several lectures by Dr. Sean McDonough, who spoke on “Jesus Made It All: Christ and Creation in the New Testament”. He explored how the early Christians came to make such an extraordinary claim, and how this teaching can help shape our lives today.
Some really great news from Tumaini Children’s Home in Nyeri, Kenya – one of last year’s leavers
(those who have finished secondary school and have to leave Tumaini) is now in California,
taking ESL (English as a Second Langauge) before joining a junior college there to study
computer engineering. He’s James Karicho – and his blog address is
http://jw-karicho.blogspot.comMore good news from Kenya - Margaret Wanjiku Ngure has received a scholarship from Noroton Prebyterian Church in Darien, CT to study Business Administration at the Presbyterian University of East Africa in Nairobi. Starting March 13th, 26 of Marilyn’s “God’s People in Kenya” photos will be on exhibit at Brendan’s 101 in Rowayton. Here’s a sneak preview. Proceeds from the sale of all the photos in the show will go to help eleven Masai girls in Bissel, Kenya to go to primary school. We pray that everyone will live this scripture verse during the coming month of Lent - Love cares more for others than for self. Love …puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end.” 1 Corinthians 13:4, 7 MSG (THE MESSAGE) |
