In “Half The Sky”, Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn say that “If you care about poverty, you must understand it,
not just oppose it. And understanding poverty comes from spending time observing it directly.” And in “The Hole
in the Gospel”, Richard Stern, President of World Vision, asks “Can you imagine the impact on our own culture
if American Christians began using their riches as if they belonged to God and were intended primarily to
further God’s kingdom?” We’ve read both of these books recently as we prepared to leave for Kenya on May 14. ![]() Our gourmand group enjoyed a very special Italian dinner straight out of Gourmet Magazine at Villa Campbell. Thank you Pat, for your spacious and well equipped kitchen which accommodated several chefs as they put the final touches on their assigned dishes. .
Marilyn’s photo, “Turkana Homes”, won first prize in the Community Sponsored Show at Rowayton Arts Center.
Thank you so much Kenneth and Kathleen Parker (not one of John’s relatives) for sponsoring the prize.
We will use the money for books and art supplies for children in Kenya.
![]() One Sunday evening, our small group met at St. Brigitta’s Convent in Tokeneke for discussion and dinner amid peaceful surroundings. We will miss these friends, and our twice a month gatherings, while we are away these next four months.
We, and eight others, represented Noroton Presbyterian Church at the annual benefit for The Open Door
Shelter in Norwalk, which was held at The Inn at Longshore in Westport. Manna House of Hospitality,
which is a part The Open Door, serves 60,000 meals each month to needy people – and, when we’re not in
Kenya, we serve lunch there the first Saturday of each month, along with others from NPC.Congratulations to our friend Roselyne who has just been accepted by Harvard to do a Masters in International Education Policy. She is from Meru, where we will be living again this summer, and was instrumental three years ago in introducing us to Ripples International. Where there is faith, there is love. Where there is love, there is peace. Where there is peace, there is God. Where there is God, there is no need. ~Joanie Garborg/Barbour Publishing |
